New Coach for Vikings

vikings logo 0Vikings has engaged capable and experienced coach, Shannon Fraser, for 2013. His Assistant  is last year’s Coach Mark Foster (aka “Blommy”), who is keen to play again this year.

Shannon has coached Fiji at the last two World Cups, has been on the Coaching panels at The Waratahs and Western Force, has coached in Japan for a number of years and has coached Southern Districts First Grade. He has recently taken up an appointment at The Illawarra Academy of Sport. A great acquisition for Vikings and for the Illawarra Competition.

Illawarra has Colts Competition again

The 2013 Illawarra Rugby season will see the reinstatement of an U20s/Colts competition. Response from the clubs in the district has been overwhelmingly positive with 8 of the senior clubs fielding teams in the new format.

Most clubs have recognized the need to focus more on this age group and have responded positively to the new format. The Illawarra Senior Rugby Competition has been rejigged, with the 2nd Grade and U20s competitions now been given equal weighting in the Club Championship race.

Young players under the age of 20 (or turning 20 in 2013) are urged to register with their clubs early.
