2017 Junior Illawarriors Announced U14 to U17

On behalf of Shaun McCreedy, Illawarra Director of Coaching, selectors, coaching and support staff, we would like to thank all of the players who attended the recent muster days. The quality of rugby on display was very high and the selection panel had some difficult decisions to make.

Congratulations to the following players who have been selected in the Junior Illawarriors Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 Development Squads for the 2017 Representative season.

The representative program will begin with two, program-wide, induction days on Sunday 12th February and Sunday 19th February 2017. The venue and times will be confirmed soon.

Following trial games in March, these squads will be cut to 23 players in preparation for the NSW Country Championships (in May 2017) and the NSW State Championship (in June 2017)

Illawarrior u13's NZ Touring Squad

The Illawarrior’s Under 13’s NZ Squad for 2017 has been selected.

A big thank you to all the players who took the time to come along and trial. The standard was very high with many positions being closely contested. The coaching staff appreciated all the players efforts and the time & effort of all the parents and carers in getting all the boys there.

Country Junior Selections

NSW Country LogoResults from the weekend country junior selection trails held at the NSW junior regionals carnival Boronia Park Hunters Hill.

Congratulations to the following players for their selection in the country team to play in the annual Sydney Vs Country fixture to be held at Kiama on August the 7th.

Under 14s

NSW Junior Regionals

The past weekend of the 16-17th of July saw many young Illawarriors, supporters and Families head to Boronia Park Hunters Hill Sydney, for the NSW Junior Regional championships. The weekend matches acted as final selection trails for the under 14s, 15s and 16s NSW Country side, for the annual Sydney Vs Country fixtures on  August the 7th at Kiama. With this weekend  the under 17s and 18s playing the annual Sydney vs Country fixtures.

The young Illawarriors in the under 14s country squad. Heath Robinson, Tumoana Potata, Ford Passese, Jordan Morn, Luke Males and Angus Blackmore.

Under 15s: Seamus King

Under 16s: Reece Apolo, Osar Moran, Opetti Taifahema, Jacob Williams, Alex Jones-Mataia and Valere Moise. Coach: Tony Leeder Smith and Selector Gordon Clarke

Michael Brial Cup (Under 17)

Sydney came out of the blocks fast and hard with the first ten minute of play all Sydney on attack scoring 3 tries. Country then gained some possession and field position for the next stanza of play resulting without any reward, with the half time score 26 – nil to Sydney. Second half started the same as the first with the Sydney side dominating the first 5- 10 minutes of play going on to score another 3 tries while country scored a late consolation try for a final result Sydney winners 38- 5.

Under 18s

Assist coach: John Noonan

Another high quality game with the reverse of the 17s match with Country domination opening stanza of play score 3 tries in the first 10 minutes of play. With some champagne running rugby. Final score country 46-10. In a very dominating game by the Country 18s

Assistant Coach: U10, U11, U12, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18

Manager: U10, U11, U12, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18

Trainer(s): U10, U11, U12, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18

Note:   U12 positions are a 2-year appointment due to the annual U13 Tour

From 2017, U15 positions will be a 2-year appointment due to the annual U16 Tour

Junior Illawarrior U10 Squad Announcement
