Illawarra District Rugby Union Referees Association

Esteemed colleagues,

Welcome to a new year of Illawarra Rugby. First from the Executive of our Association as well as the Board of Illawarra Rugby, I have been informed that no person will be appointed to any matches unless they are currently Smart Rugby accredited. We were 100% compliant last year and we have to keep it this way. I have also been informed that all Grade coaches must have Smart Rugby accreditation as this is the OH&S of Rugby Union for insurance purposes as well as of course for best practise safety and duty of care reasons. Below is a list of courses provided over the next few weeks.

The Kiama Sevens Tournament is on Saturday 22nd February and we need as many as possible to attend especially for the early morning session. I have not as yet received many attendance notices from you. We need at least a dozen or so of our referees to help out on the day. Could as many as possible please let me know by urgent return email if you will be there and I will pass the message onto Tim.

Also on February 16th at Win Stadium the Junior Gold Cup initiative for the U15 at 2.00pm and U17 at 3.15pm will begin in our district with Illawarra playing Sydney North Harbour. James Penman has been appointed to referee the U15 game and some very promising junior referees have been appointed as Assistant Referees, namely Harry Fenton, Jake Loiterton, Nelson Tiaone, Will Panayi. So please come along to the Stadium on Sunday afternoon for some fast open junior representative rugby.

Our next meeting is on Monday the 17th February at the Illawarra Master Builders Club and we expect as many of us as possible to attend as we have many issues to iron out, including election of a new President. It is an opportunity to bed down the numbers for the Kiama Sevens and any other trials etc.

There will also be a presentation of the Game Management Guidelines in March on a date yet to be confirmed held by the ARU and the Appointments Board expect all to attend when it is announced.
