Illawarriors Dominate Selections in NSW Country Cockatoos Squad

NSW Country LogoThe Illawarriors have dominated selections in the 2013 NSW Graincorp Country Cockatoos Squad which has been released today Wednesday 27 March 2013.

Ten Illawarriors players have received selection in the 29 man extended squad which will go into a training camp in two weekends time before playing matches against Queensland Country, NSW Sydney Suburban and ACT across May 2013.

Gavin Holder Awarded Player of the NSW Country Championships

illawarraVcentralwest 0009Illawarriors Captain and flanker Gavin Holder has received a wonderful honour in being named player of the NSW Country Championships which were held at Tamworh in Central North NSW last weekend.

Holder was a clear standout for the title of the best player after putting in back to back man of the match performances for Illawarra in their two matches across the weekend against Central Coast and Newcastle Hunter.

Illawarriors Valiant in Defeat

IMG 7719The Illawarriors contested the NSW Country Rugby Caldwell Cup final yesterday afternoon in Tamworth against Arch rivals Newcastle Hunter.

The side started strongly against the reigning Champions scoring first through a Don Nepia penalty. Following another penalty from Don Nepia Ilawarra led 6-0.

Illawarrior Colts Go Down in Close Final

colts wingerThe Illawarrior Colts were narrowly defeated 14 points to 6 by Central Coast in yesterdays NRMA Colts Shield Final at Tamworth.

The team were keen to do well after an impressive game on the Saturday but realised they were up against some tougher opposition in Central Coast who they only narrowly defeated in last years shield final.

Illawarriors Through to Caldwell Cup Final

In a very positive day for Illawarra Rugby, the Illawarriors Seniors were very convincing in their Caldwell cup Semi Final with a massive 53-14 victory over Central Coast in Tamworth today.

The Illawarrioirs were dominant in an 8 tries to 2 display. Among the Illawarra try scorers were Jade Gardiner, Tala Mapesone, Ash Mason and Roger Cairns. Don Napier kicked well and converted 6 of the tries and a penalty.  Illawarras dominant players were James Smith, Hori Leef, Ben Greentree, Jade Gardiner, Aaron Loxlry and wingers Tala Mapesone and Eli Sinoti

The Colts also won their game against New England 31-0. The Seniors play Newcastle in the Caldwell Cup final tomorrow, with the Colts playing Central Coast in the Shield Final.

Illawarriors Arrive in Tamworth

illawarriors logoThe Illawarriors and Illawarrior Colts have this evening arrived in Tamworth to Contest the NSW Country Rugby Championships over the coming weekend.

The squads arrived around 5pm after a long bus ride that started in the Shoalhaven around 7am this morning.
